Golden Harvest Food Bank Announcement September 2018

Dear Art,

We have your volunteer group from Aiken High School on our volunteer schedule at the Aiken warehouse from 9:00-12:00 on Saturday 9/15/18.

Please reach out one week prior to confirm your attendance and the number of volunteers to expect in your group. This will help our staff plan accordingly.

Location: Aiken Golden Harvest Food Bank warehouse

Address: 81 Capital Drive in Aiken (located near the intersection of East Pine Log and Banks Mill)

Staff Member and your point of contact: Ed Chavis or Grace Renken

Age recommendation: 8 years old and above.

1 adult chaperone is required for every 4 children.

Dress: The temperature in our warehouses changes with the seasons. We recommend dressing in casual clothes that can get dirty/sweaty.

Close-toed shoes are required for safety.

Tennis shoes and gym-type attire work best.

Volunteer Tasks:

Sorting/inspecting/organizing all food donations from the community.

Repacking food, packing/weighing food boxes, sorting/packaging produce, frozen meats, etc.

Volunteers will inspect food for quality before Golden Harvest Food Bank distributes to our 300+ partner agencies.

This includes soup kitchens and food pantries across 30 counties across Georgia and South Carolina.

Packing boxes for our senior food box program

Program Mission: Golden Harvest Food Bank provides at-risk seniors living on a fixed income with a free 20 pound box of groceries each month.

Last year we distributed over 400,000 pounds of food to an average of 1,549 seniors per month.

These senior food boxes are carefully prepared and packaged with the help of volunteers only at our Aiken warehouse.

If you have any questions or if anything changes, just let me know.

We are pretty flexible and can make it work if you give us advance notice.

Thank you,

Please remember to bring $5.00 for your t-shirt at our upcoming meeting (Tuesday, August 28, 2018).

If you cannot make it, send the money and your shirt size with a friend.

Why so inexpensive? Thank you to the Rotary Club of Aiken for subsidizing our t-shirts and making them so affordable!
