Run United Appreciation April 2019

April 26, 2019

Dear Aiken High School Rotary Interact Heroes,

Thank you to all who helped out at Run United. Of course, we had a lot of fun, but we also helped raise much-needed funds for the United Way of Aiken County.

How will the money raised be used? The following is from the United Way of Aiken County web site:

United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.

In 2008, United Way World Wide initiated a 10-year program designed to achieve the following goals by 2018:

    • Improve education, and cut the number of high school dropouts — 1.2 million students, every year — in half.
    • Help people achieve financial stability, and get 1.9 million working families — half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable — on the road to economic independence.
    • Promote healthy lives, and increase by one-third the number of youth and adults who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors.

These goals are ambitious, but with your help, and by utilizing our core strengths — a national network, committed partners and public engagement capacity — we can achieve them.

I appreciate your getting up to start the day at 5:30 am to serve Aiken County residents in need. That was a kind thing to do on a Saturday morning.

As always, you guys were great and I am proud to be your sponsor.

German students visiting Aiken High return home

April 25, 2019

Dear Aiken High School Rotary Interact Heroes,

Wow, you guys did a great on our big international project. Hosting new friends from our partner school in Munich, Germany, the Nymphenburger Gymnasium, for three weeks was interesting and a lot of fun, of course.

But hosting an international exchange student is more than fun: When it works the way it ought to, it is a service to our country and the world. It increases international understanding and promotes peace in the future.

Not a bad service project, right?

Thank you making this experience a huge success.
